The Farm and Gardens

Our outdoor environment is a unique place, where nature herself awakens the child’s spirit to the rhythms and wonders of the world. When the school year begins in September, we set right to work harvesting the last of our summer crops. As fall sets in, we gather apples from the trees sharing them with the horses. We prepare applesauce and apple butter for our snacks. Huge old walnut trees shed their leaves and we rake. Winter crops are set out, compost turned and soil prepared for spring planting. Spring is a riot of activity as the fig tree first unfolds its new leaves, the chickens begin laying again, the goats give birth, and the buzz of busy insects signals the pollination of our peach and cherry trees.
